Review & Approval
Why a new workspace's first large campaign waits for a one-time review, and what happens while it does.
Every Mailcrate workspace sends from shared infrastructure, so one bad first send, such as an old purchased list full of dead addresses, can hurt deliverability for everyone. To prevent that, a new workspace's first large campaign is held for a quick, one-time review by the Mailcrate team before it goes out.
01
You send
A campaign to more than 1,000 recipients.
02
Pending review
Mailcrate checks the audience and content.
03
Approved
It sends automatically, or at its scheduled time.
When a campaign is held
A campaign is held when all of these are true:
- The workspace has never had a large campaign approved before.
- The campaign goes to more than 1,000 recipients, or to an external audience, whose size isn't known until it sends.
Smaller campaigns are never held. Once one campaign has been approved, the workspace's later campaigns send without review, whatever their size.
While it waits
The campaign's status shows In review, and its page explains that it is waiting for a one-time review. Reviews are usually done within a few hours.
- If it is approved, it sends straight away, or at the time you scheduled.
- If it is declined, it returns to draft and doesn't send. Check your audience (where did these contacts come from, and did they agree to hear from you?) and contact support if you're unsure why.
You don't need to do anything while it waits. To make changes, open the campaign and choose Cancel Schedule: it returns to draft, and when you send it again it is reviewed again.
Getting through review quickly
- Send only to people who opted in to hear from you, and whose addresses you collected recently.
- Make sure your domain is verified with DKIM and the envelope sender set up.
- Include your postal address (the
{{ sender_address }}merge tag) and an unsubscribe link in the email. - Consider sending gradually, which spreads a large send over time.
Related limits
Review is one of several rails that protect deliverability. Your workspace also has a daily sending quota, and sending pauses automatically if bounce or complaint rates spike. See Sending Quotas.
